Short Movie Festival Youth In Action

The project idea

The project idea started from the declaration of mrs. Viviane Reding, European Commissioner responsible for education and culture in 2004 about the new dimension of European youth programmes.
She said that “Questions linked to education and citizenship will be among the major challenges of the next decade. In a Union which will have nearly 500 million inhabitants in 2007, giving them the means to exploit the full potential of their belonging, in cultural and citizenship terms, to such an extraordinarily diverse whole will require the mobilisation of all the tools and programmes at our disposal. The new youth initiative will therefore form part of a new overall approach, building bridges between cultures and individuals.”
This means that new Europe, born after the enlargement of 2004, needs to establish reinforced and restructured initiatives which are nearest to the youth citizens, enabling them in particular to benefit from a true common area in terms of mobility and innovation.
The question that interested the project partnership was how to create an initiative that could be innovative an also interesting and useful for future (also for future jobs).
The answer at that question was to present a project in which young people could express themselves describing what they think, what they feel, what they believe exploring an alternative and innovative way of working and staying together.
This idea was also used for the 3 categories of movies that concern Youth Social Exclusion, European rights and interculturality & peace.
The 3 categories were chosen looking at the international and European situation in our days (European Constitution, War in Iraq, Attacks in Europe, Enlargement, etc.): they will be the way to permit to young people to express themselves and to exchange and share their opinions with a new methodology.
