Short Movie Festival Youth In Action

Educational aims and learning objectives

The key motivation for organising the "Short Movie Festival Youth in Action" was the wish for a novel approach of not only promoting the idea of an integrated Europe among young people but also involving them in a process of active discussion.
Since movies are a very influential instrument of communication, making them in advance and making use of them should be an attractive way of dealing with the issues of human rights, intercultural dialogue and contributions to the European integration.

Therefore, this event:
a) combines art and creativity with thematic work on common social issues and cultural diversity;
b) permit the participation of many young people coming from different countries
c) give the possibility to understand the worries of young people about the international situation;
d) consents to generate a new point of view on European concepts coming directly from young people, without any filter or limit.

Key-objectives of this projects are:
- to create a platform for young, amateur and professional movie makers to show their work to the public and get the opportunity to get into contact with fellow short film producers and distributors, journalists and successful directors;
- to motivate movie makers to create a new perspective on European issues;
- to promote the creative look into the topics mentioned;
- to mobilize the ambitious and creative people to contribute their points of view to the discussion on the issues touched on by the categories;
- to promote movies and movie makers after the festival;
- to promote participation of young people in the formulation and implementation of youth policies and European citizenship in youth work
- to promote young women¡¥s participation
- to fight social exclusion

Educational aims of the project are:
- to empower leadership and participation skills of young people;
- to infuse optimism in the European development;
- to realise a project directed to young people and realised from young people;
- to realise new friendships;
- to offer the opportunity to young people to share their talents in relation to active citizenship;
- to help to think with a common sense of European citizenship;
- to explore an alternative and innovative way of working together;
- to learn in an atmosphere that spawns ideas, facilitates cooperation, and often leads to lifelong friendships.

An other important objective is the creation of a net after the festival: the intention of the promoter association is also to create a long-term partnership among organisations that operate with cinema creative creations to promote closer co-operation and better understanding among young people in Europe, particularly by developing the exchange of information.

The SHORT MOVIE FESTIVAL YOUTH IN ACTION should become the first edition of an annual event dedicated to youth cinema addressed on youth problems.
At the moment there is not a network for young people and their organisations in this sector, even if this sector is considered one of the most important to permit real participation of young people and development of their methods of thinking and their ideas.

Also the cinema criteria are evaluated as very important to transmit messages to society and youth festival should be encouraged at any level (think one of the most important film festival, Giffoni Film Festival, and at its positive consequences on growing up of young people).
EURO-NET has realised in the past many movies and television programmes in different initiatives and has verified the importance of this tool to involve young people, to develop the concept of European citizenship and to understand youth problems directly from young people and how to try to fight them.
